BPW, a UK-based manufacturer of truck axels and sub-assemblies, chose to use the TransLution™ Software’s Windows Scanner and Windows Touch Screen devices in various parts of its factory.

The company BPW Bergische Achsen KG was established in 1898 producing axles from steel for coaches and wagon. Today there are 45 “daughter” companies in 25 countries worldwide. The South African subsidiary, BPW Axles (Pty) Ltd, has been operating in South Africa for over 40 years, manufacturing the latest BPW running gear range and components for all light/heavy duty applications for Southern Africa.

For BPW, innovation and development is still aimed at only the customer. Every new idea implemented will save running cost or downtime. Although the heart of BPW’s operation is in Wiehl/Germany, the company has become a global player with more than 60% of all production being exported to markets outside Germany.

On the factory floor, at the end of each production line, there is a scanning point – as items come off the line, pre-printed, serialised labels are applied. As each label is scanned, the serial number is interrogated to find the source SYSPRO job number and then various transactions are posted to the SYSPRO system. The serial number that was scanned is posted to the SYSPRO as a job receipt allowing the customer documentation to be printed with these numbers for complete tracking and all the raw materials used for that specific production step are issue to the job.
