FHS (Filter and Hose Solutions) is the official filtration distributor for Donaldson, Filtrec, and ASAS, as well as the official industrial hose distributor for Malcorp and Plexaco. FHS has chosen to integrate TransLution™ and Pastel to improve speed and accuracy in various business processes.

The first of these processes is purchase orders receiving. When a truck arrives at FHS to deliver goods, users are prompted for the delivery note number and the purchase order number. The goods received are then scanned in. If the goods do not have barcode, TransLution™ can be used to print the required barcodes.

As the user is scanning, checks are done to ensure that the products and quantities correspond to the purchase order being dealt with. Once all goods have been scanned, a purchase order receipt is posted through to the Pastel database. This makes PO receiving both quicker and more accurate than a manual process.

Scanning is also used at the sales order checking stage. When a sales order is ready to be dispatched the user is asked to enter the sales order they wish to dispatch as well as the stock codes corresponding to that sales order. The user may scan the barcode attached to the packaging of that product or enter the stock code as some products may not have labels on them. This flexibility of either scanning a product barcode or entering a stock code manually is very important for smooth process flow.

FHS also packs kits for their customers. A kit (eg. a bicycle) could include other products (eg. frame, handlebar, saddle etc.). When the user puts a kit together they are first asked to enter the kit stock code (bicycle). As the user puts this kit together they scan or enter the stock code of the products which belong to that kit. Validations on the products and quantities are done to ensure that the right products are added to the kit with the required quantities. Once the kit is complete the system sends an email to the necessary person to inform that the kit is complete and ready to be dispatched. Automated notifications are an excellent way of improving efficiencies: instead of manually checking for information, essential data is delivered directly to the relevant desktop.
