Consupaq utilises TransLution™ to improve receiving and job processes

Consupaq, a division of Astrapak, produces high volumes of rigid moulded, and thermoformed plastic packaging products. Consupaq uses TransLution™ Software to automate job functions, handle raw materials, and improve stock take.

At Consupaq, one of Astrapak’s Durban facilities, TransLution Software prints job labels based on the job data in SYSPRO – there are as many labels printed as required by the job and no more. Each label is uniquely identified with a serial number. The labels are scanned at the end of production to post a job receipt. The system ensures that no label is scanned twice.

Consupaq also uses TransLution to issue raw materials to jobs when box labels are scanned at the end of production. The quantities to issue are based on the number of labels scanned and TransLution determines all the materials and quantities required automatically without user intervention. This makes job issuing a simple, easy to use process. If there is a shortage of stock to be issued, the user can deal with this in TransLution where they are presented with a grid showing failed transactions with the ability to re-post when stock is available.

TransLution™ Software also automates stock take. The scanning process ensures that users do not scan the same box twice, meaning they have to move through the warehouse scanning each box to count it. This data is then viewed on a grid to check for anomalies and subsequently posted to a SYSPRO™ stock take session.

In order to simplify the system, TransLution™ was customised to remove the need for users to select a different function on the scanner based on what they will be scanning. The user simply scans a barcode on either a box, a pallet or an item and the system will automatically identify what was scanned and how many units of a given item it represents.

The goal is to extend these improvements into several other Astrapak sites.
