McKinnon Chain, an accredited chain and lifting components manufacturer in Gauteng, South Africa, chose to implement TransLution Software to assist with tracking goods in production.

Serving both local and international markets, McKinnon Chain manufactures a variety of products to national and international standards, requiring accurate visibility over all goods in production. The first phase of the rollout included implementation of a barcoded labelling function for barcoding of drums, as well as a transfer function to move drums between warehouses.

TransLution is also used during the production processes. Once jobs have been created in SYSPRO and the raw materials issued to the job, job cards are printed using TransLution.

Raw materials are currently manually issued to the jobs in SYSPRO. When doing a job receipt, TransLution will first check which items required on the job have not been issued and do a specific issue of those materials. Once finished goods have been manufactured, drums are sealed and labelled before being sent to the Finished Goods warehouse for a final check before posting a receipt. Drums are then scanned and weighed in order to process the receipt. Receipts outside of a pre-defined tolerance require supervisor override.

TransLution is also used to manage the issue of job to subcontractors as required. Gate passes are also printed to assist with the security of the subcontracting process.

A cycle count process was also implemented to ensure accuracy of stock levels at any given time.
