Dewhurst, a UK-based manufacturer of components for the elevator industry, has successfully implemented TransLution Software across their production and inventory operations. The primary objective of this implementation was to enhance real-time inventory tracking, with every job issue and receipt scanned and posted directly to Syspro. The project focused on improving key processes such as issuing material to jobs, tracking jobs through work centres, and receipting finished goods.
TransLution Software was integrated to support several critical functions. An inbound scanning function was implemented to log jobs into each work centre and automatically post a kit issue of components at the first operation. Additionally, a function for outbound scanning was introduced to post labour as jobs leave each station and to receipt finished goods into stock at the last operation, giving accurate job costing without manual capture.
The system also includes specific, negative and expense issue functions, which allocate stock to jobs, return unused material and expense stock from bins, all validated against Syspro as they are scanned.
In addition to automating transactions, TransLution also helped to optimize their process by allowing them to consolidate jobs on the fly and create a consolidated pick slip for stock to pick for jobs. The quantity picked is then distributed to the jobs based on sequence of jobs scanned should the quantity picked be lower than the total required.
This implementation aims to boost operational efficiency, reduce errors, and provide a full audit trail of who moved what stock, and when. Dewhurst anticipates that these improvements will lead to more accurate stock-on-hand figures and real-time visibility of production progress.
With scanning now embedded from component issue through to job receipt, Dewhurst has a strong platform for tighter inventory control and better-informed production decisions.
