Barnes Fencing Industries is a South African manufacturer and supplier of all types of galvanised wire fencing products.

Barnes Fencing Industries has recently installed and gone live with TransLution™ Software to assist them with various aspects of their business. The first phase of the project aimed to improve raw material receiving and management of various production processes, including wire drawing and galvanising.

Barnes receives rod packs from various suppliers and uses TransLution™ to manage the receiving process. TransLution™ automatically posts the GRNs to SYSPRO, updating the purchase order that the goods were received against.

These same rod packs are then scanned against jobs into the wire drawing process. At the end of the manufacturing process, drawn wire is scanned out and kit issues of raw materials and job receipts of finished goods are posted to SYSPRO. This keeps the stock on hand figures for both Raw Materials and Finished Goods accurate in SYSPRO.

Both the factory and admin staff have seen multiple benefits to the implementation of this system. Processes that were previously time and resource intensive are now as quick as a simple scan – for example stock-take, which used to span a whole day, is now complete in a few short hours. Receiving has also been drastically improved as items are GRN’d as soon as they arrive – day or night. As a 24-hour operation, this is an important benefit as there is no longer a need to wait for someone in admin to complete the task. Furthermore, production is also recorded at any time, as stock is produced. These combined improvements have allowed for up-to-the-minute stock and production values.
