After the successful rollout of TransLution to manage finished goods in Frozen for You, By Word of Mouth’s frozen meals division decided to expand their use of TransLution into other areas of production.

One of South Africa’s top catering companies, family-owned By Word of Mouth, launched Frozen for You – a range of frozen meals developed for South Africans who don’t have time to prepare food at home.

In the first phase of the project, TransLution was implemented to manage job receipts, sales order picking, checking and dispatch, and receipt of supply chain transfers.

After the successful implementation of Phase 1, Frozen for You implemented the second phase which includes raw material receiving and WIP (work in progress) functionality.

For this implementation, a TransLution’s two-stage receiving process was utilized. First, items are received and labels are generated using a scanner. Then, a TransLution grid is used to review all the receipted goods prior to posting a receipt to SYSPRO to create a GRN. All items are lot-traceable and labels contain both the item code and the lot number. As part of the TransLution validation process, no expired lots are accepted at receiving.

The WIP process includes various TransLution functions. The user starts with a bulk picking process. After scanning the job card, they are required to pick all of the required items for the job, with TransLution suggesting the oldest lot to pick. Raw materials are moved to a staging area once picked and they are specifically issued to bulk jobs.

Materials are then decanted per job for pre-preparation. The ingredients are weighed and mixed into buckets which are then weighed, labelled, and stored before sending them to bulk production. Any unused raw materials are sent back to storage in the inventory warehouse using a negative issue from TransLution.

Once bulk production has been completed, it is decanted into various sized buckets and moved to the finished goods packaging area. The bulk job receipt is done prior to decanting into the finished goods containers. TransLution posts a Job Receipt to SYSPRO for the quantity made.
