One of South Africa’s top catering companies, By Word of Mouth, launched Frozen for You – a range of frozen meals developed for South Africans who don’t have time to prepare food at home. The first store was opened in March 2018 and the company now has fifteen retail stores across the country.

TransLution was selected to facilitate the movement and management of finished goods at Frozen for You. This was done by implementing a scanning solution to assist users with tracking of stock while enforcing consistent and reliable warehouse practices.

The project was implemented in two phases with phase one covering job receipts, sales order picking, checking and dispatch, and receipt of supply chain transfers.

TransLution creates and prints barcoded labels for finished products in the production area once labelled the stock is frozen, packed and transferred to the finished goods warehouse/freezer for storage. A Sales Order or SCT triggers the requirement of the product.

At the finished goods store, all items are scanned and a job receipt is posted to SYSPRO. At the same time, TransLution does a kit issue of materials and packaging. With a single barcode scan, multiple actions are performed in SYSPRO, simplifying the process for the operators.

TransLution is also used for sales order picking. A barcoded pick slip is printed from within TransLution whereupon finished goods are picked and taken to the checking area to be packed into cases for dispatch. The operator scans the pickslip and are then guided through the process for suggested lots to pick using FEFO for picking.

This is followed by a scanner-based checking process. The user scans the pickslip and begins scanning items to confirm they were correctly picked. As the cases are filled, they are sealed and a case label is printed. On completion of checking, the items can be handed over to the dispatch area for review prior to dispatch.

A single-stage scanning function is available to receive Supply Chain Transfers coming into the Distribution Centres or Head Office.
