Robertson Winery, one of South Africa’s foremost wine farms, also completes contract packaging and bottling.

At Robertson, TransLution™ is used to do job receipts with lots. Robertson prints their own pallet labels and TransLution™ scans these pallets to receipt the item. The lot is put on hold as soon as it is receipted.

Since SYSPRO does not allow lots that are on hold to be moved between bins, whenever a pallet needs to be moved, if the lot is on hold, TransLution will take it off hold, move the pallet, then put the lot back on hold. This mechanism gives Robertson the control they require but also allows for flexibility to move pallets around and between warehouses.

The system has been cleverly configured to allow users to simply scan the source and target bin, and using the scanned data, TransLution™ automatically detects if it is a bin transfer or a warehouse transfer. The appropriate business object is then automatically chosen to do the post to SYSPRO leaving the users with a much simpler system.

Roberston has almost 10 warehouses, some of them remote and not well connected to the network. In these warehouses, they have elected to use the buffered scanning feature offered by TransLution that allows scanning to be done even when there is no network connectivity.

The initial phase of the project was to facilitate job receipts but future plans include picking, checking and dispatch to support the 20-30 trucks per day that leave the warehouse.
