Sweet-Orr, an American garment manufacturer based in South Africa, produces a range of “tough-environment” protective workwear. As well as manufacturing standard uniforms, Sweet-Orr also produces custom orders and focuses on innovation, research and development.

To improve processes throughout the business, Sweet-Orr chose to implement TransLution™ Software. The system is used across the organization, from receiving through to dispatch, as well as labour tracking, stock take and providing information for system dashboards.

Fabric is received in rolls and each roll is uniquely identified with a serial number. In addition to receiving fabric, TransLution™ is also used to receive trims such as buttons and zips. TransLution™ is used to post a Good Received Note to SYSPRO and goods are put directly into a bin while receiving. Labels are printed and serial numbers are created as part of the receiving process.

Sweet-Orr has a well-defined process to manage the complexities of producing multiple sizes of the same item for customer orders. They create multiple sub-jobs on each job to cater for different sizes and when fabric and trims are issued to jobs, TransLution™ automatically issues proportionally to jobs based on the sizes required.

In addition to assisting with jobs and production, TransLution™ is also used for labour tracking. A specialized software planning tool is used to optimise the fabric cutting process. TransLution™ reads data from that application to print tickets per bundle of fabric. Users are required to scan these tickets at each stage of the production process so that labour can be posted per operation. If a user skips a scan and then scans the next operation, TransLution™ will do the required calculations and post the labour for the missed operation automatically.

Sweet-Orr consolidates orders per customer and uses TransLution™ to pre-print parcel labels for customer orders. They then pick garments directly into labelled parcels. Scanning at each step ensures that only valid items are picked into a parcel. At the end of the picking process, users can validate what they picked on a dispatch screen and use TransLution™ to create a Dispatch Note in SYSPRO.

Finally, TransLution™ is also used to assist with both a serialised stock-take for counting rolls and a more standard stock take for counting trims and finished goods.
