Cape Herb & Spice, a Libstar Group Company, produces a range of core herb, spice and seasoning solutions for the South African market.

The initial phase of the TransLution™ implementation at Cape Herbs and Spice was focussed on the section of the business dealing with tea. The implementation will be extended to Spices in a subsequent phase.

The implementation begins with receiving raw materials from a range of suppliers. Raw materials are labelled and pallets are stored in the warehouse. There is a sampling process to manage quality.

Raw materials are scanned and issued to jobs using a scale that communicates with TransLution™ to weigh the amounts issued. Packaging is also issued to jobs and when production is complete unused packaging is returned from job to stock using negative issues to SYSPRO.

Once a job is complete, not only is the job receipt posted to SYSPRO, labour is also posted. Some of the production jobs are quite complicated and master and sub jobs are used in SYSPRO – TransLution™ deals with all the complexities and for the end user there is no difference between a master job and a sub job.

While full pallets are generally used in the warehouse, the process also supports part-pallets and TransLution™ keeps track of the product and quantity on each pallet. Items in the warehouse are lot traceable and TransLution™ also keeps track of the different lots.

The next phase of the project includes extending the implementation through to the spices section of the business.
