TransLution™ Software USA improves Purchase Order Receiving and Bin Transfers for American Printing House for the Blind

TransLution™ Software USA has been working with American Printing House for the Blind (APH) to implement a scanning system that integrated with the organization’s existing SYSPRO system. The American Printing House for the Blind (APH) was founded in Louisville to develop and produce educational materials and provide services for people who are blind and visually impaired.

While APH has been running SYSPRO for a number of years, their decision to implement a scanning system was based on the need to increase stock accuracy and update SYSPRO in real time.

The system is being implemented in multiple phases to minimize the impact of the transition. Phase one, which has been live since the second half of 2017, was focussed on Purchase Order Receiving and Bin Transfers.

The system first creates a pre-receipt in TransLution™ which allows for item labels to be printed without posting data into SYSPRO. Once an inspector has done a formal count of the goods received, the goods are receipted into SYSPRO and a Good Received Note is created. There is a small subset of goods that are not received directly into stock but into Inspection. TransLution™ receives these goods into inspection and then the inspection process is handled from within SYSPRO.

For Putaways, APH required that the putaway process be Partially Directed – users are told where to put the item but are able to place it in another location if required. TransLution™ allows the users scan the item to put away and the system suggests which bin to sore the item in based on where the item is currently stored in the warehouse.

Through this implementation, APH has a clearer overview of the location of stock, speeding up picking and putaway. Increased stock accuracy allows for better production planning and direct posting to SYSPRO at the point of activity minimizes errors and further increases processing speed.

Future phases of the implementation will include the areas of production and dispatch.
